1 Peter 5:8 - The devil is seeking someone to devour?
Could 1 Peter 5:8 indicate a need for deliverance for those who have been believers in the past?
1 Peter 5:8: "Be-sober, keep-watch. Your adversary the devil is-walking-around like (a) roaring lion, seeking someone TO-DEVOUR —"
"Seeking someone to devour"?
Peter wrote to people who had "faith" (1 Peter 1:7) to "Be-sober, keep-watch. Your adversary THE DEVIL IS-WALKING-AROUND like (a) roaring lion, SEEKING SOMEONE TO-DEVOUR" (1 Peter 5:8).
What would happen if they do not end up being sober nor end up keeping watch? Could the devil then devour them? If so, what would it look like for the devil to devour them?
It was written about Judas that at some point "THE DEVIL already having-put into the heart (of) Judas, (son of) Simon Iscariot, that (he) should-hand Him over" (John 13:2). Here the devil may have been walking around Judas, seeking to devour Judas. Later in the same chapter, after that Judas showed no sign of resisting the devil, it was written about "Judas" (John 13:26) that "at that time SATAN ENTERED into that (one)" (John 13:27).
The term "SATAN" can be used interchangeably with the term "THE DEVIL". For example, in one account it is written: "He was in the wilderness forty days being-tempted by SATAN" (Mark 1:13) and in the parallel account from another author it is written: "Jesus was-led-up into the wilderness by the Spirit to-be-tempted by THE DEVIL" (Matthew 4:1).
Could it be that the devil would have end up devouring Judas here by ending up entering Judas? If so, could the same happen to the people to whom Peter was writing to?
"Resist, firm in the faith"?
Peter wrote to "Be-sober, keep-watch. Your adversary THE DEVIL IS-WALKING-AROUND like (a) roaring lion, SEEKING SOMEONE TO-DEVOUR, whom RESIST, FIRM (IN) THE FAITH" (1 Peter 5:8-9).
To stay firm in the FAITH could be useful to resist the devil, as to have FAITH could be compatible with what may be expected from someone having the need for a demon to be cast out. For someone to have FAITH could be a solution to keep the devil away from them instead for the same reason that FAITH could be expected from someone having the need for a demon to be cast out.
