Descriptions of people who needed a demon to be cast out

Descriptions of people who needed a demon to be cast out

In the Bible a man indicated that his son had a demon that needed to be CAST OUT. That man then gave a description of what was happening to his son, as it is written: "one from the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I-brought my son having (a) mute spirit to You. And wherever it-overcomes him, it-throws-him-to-the-ground, and he-foams-at-the-mouth and grinds (his) teeth and becomes-stiff. And I-spoke (to) Your disciples in-order-that THEY-MIGHT-CAST IT OUT" (Mark 9:17-18).

Many descriptions of people who had demons that needed to be CAST OUT are given in the Bible. For example these descriptions can include:

Being very violent (Matthew 8:28).

Being mute (Matthew 9:32).

Being blind and mute (Matthew 12:22).

Having seizures (Matthew 17:15).

Suffering badly by often falling into fire or water (Matthew 17:15).

Having a dwelling place in the tombs (Mark 5:2-3).

Having unusual great strength (Mark 5:4).

Crying out (continually) (Mark 5:5).

Cutting oneself (continually) (Mark 5:5).

Not being sound minded (Mark 5:15).

Being thrown to the ground (Mark 9:18).

Foaming at the mouth (Mark 9:18).

Grinding the teeth (Mark 9:18).

Becoming stiff (Mark 9:18).

Not dressed for a considerable time (Luke 8:27).

Driven into desolate places (Luke 8:29).

Suddenly crying out (Luke 9:39).

Convulsing (Luke 9:39).

Being bruised (Luke 9:39).

Practicing fortune telling (/divination) (Acts 16:16).

People could even simply find themselves "in the synagogue" (Luke 4:33) without any other specific description of them.

Men (Matthew 9:32, Mark 5:2).

Women (Luke 8:2, Acts 16:16).

Children: little daughter & son (Mark 7:25 & Mark 7:30, Mark 9:17 & Mark 9:24)

People who need a demon cast out are not necessarily overcome all the time:

There are accounts in the Bible of people (who needed demons to be CAST OUT) who were not overcome by the demons all the time. They could be overcome at times, but not all the time.

For example, regarding the "son having (a) mute spirit" (Mark 9:17), the father of that son said that "WHEREVER it-overcomes him, it-throws-him-to-the-ground" (Mark 9:18). The fact that the father referred to specific instances "WHEREVER it-overcomes him" (Mark 9:18) can suggest that there are times in which the son would not be overcome by that spirit. The father also added that wherever the spirit overcomes his son "it-throws-him-to-the-ground" (Mark 9:18) which can also suggest that the son would have times when he would not be to the ground and so have times when he would not be overcome by that spirit. Later, it is described about that spirit that "IT-CAME-OUT" (Mark 9:26).

There are also several accounts not describing any manifestation before a demon is about to come out, as for example it is written: "the crowds with-one-accord were-paying-attention-to the (things) being-said by Philip, during their hearing and seeing the signs which he-was-doing. For many (of) the (ones) having unclean spirits — THEY-WERE-COMING-OUT" (Acts 8:6-7).

The idea that every person in the Bible (who needed demons to be CAST OUT) would be overcome by the demons all the time may sometimes arise from an assumption that a word to describe them would read "demon-possessed". In such case, the term "possessed" could also be assumed to mean that the demon could "possess" (or have ownership or control in some sense) of every ability that a human may have while being inside that human. A different reading of this word is possible though, and there are reasons to suggest that the word that could read "demon-possessed" could reasonably be translated as "to-be-demonized" (which does not include the term "possessed").
